Visit Mason City launches


                                 new award program




                                  Expressing a sense of welcome and good cheer, the
                                pineapple is a centuries-old symbol of hospitality. A pineapple
                                placed on the porch, door or entrance welcomed visitors.
                                Home and hospitality warmly embrace friends. Genuine
                                welcome makes lasting connections.
                                  In an effort to recognize the tourism partners who make a
                                lasting impression on visitors to our community, Visit Mason
                                City has launched a new award program. Visitors to Mason city
                                hotels, attractions and restaurants are encouraged to vote for
                                the venue(s) where their experience exceeded their
                                expectations.
                                  Votes will be collected through September 1st via the online
                                survey as well as paper ballots submitted to Visit Mason City.
                                Ballots and ballot boxes are available at the Mason City Visitor
                                Center, as well as various locations throughout the community.
                                  The enterprise that receives the most favorable responses in each category (hotel,
                                attraction, and restaurant) will be recognized with Visit Mason City’s “Golden Pineapple
                                Hospitality Award”!

                                  Visit Mason City staff recently hosted a FAM
                                 (short for “familiarization”) tour for two travel
                                 writers—Lena Burkut from Way 2 Goodlife and
                                 Kylie Neuhaus from Between England and
                                 Iowa. This tour was held in conjunction with
                                 the Building Community Conference held in
                                 Clear Lake, May 9-11.
                                  During the tour, Kylie and Lena visited the
                                 Kinney Pioneer Museum, Music Man Square &
                                 Meredith Willson Boyhood Home, MacNider
                                 Art Museum, the Historic Park Inn, and other
                                 sites throughout the community. Meal stops
                                 included the 1910 Grille, Suzie Q Café and
                                 Birdsall’s Ice Cream. Lodging accommodations
                                 were provided by the Historic Park Inn.
                                  VMC will host Cindy Ladage from Traveling
                                 Adventures of a Farm Girl May 25-27 during
                                 the North Iowa Band Festival.
