One of the things I appreciate most about our North Iowa community is how we show up for each other. Whether it’s through volunteering, supporting local events, or simply cheering one another on, there is a shared sense of pride in seeing our people and businesses succeed. That’s exactly why nominations for awards like Business of the Year and Boss of the Year matter so much.
Last year, our team had the incredible honor of being nominated—and ultimately selected—as Business of the Year. I can honestly say it was both humbling and inspiring. Knowing that someone took the time to recognize our work and submit a nomination meant more than the award itself. It reminded us that the everyday efforts of our employees, leaders, and partners are seen and valued in this community.
There are so many businesses and leaders across North Iowa who are making a difference every single day. The challenge is that many of them don’t stop to tell their own story. That’s where nominations make such a meaningful impact. When you nominate someone, you are helping to shine a light on the moments that might otherwise go unnoticed—the leader who invests in their people, the team that gives back, or the business that shows up time and time again to support the community.
Think about the leaders who have made a difference in your own experience. Bosses who have encouraged you, challenged you, or simply believed in you. Nominating a Boss of the Year is a powerful way to say, “What you do matters.” Strong leadership doesn’t just drive results—it builds culture, develops people, and creates workplaces where individuals can truly thrive.
The same is true for Business of the Year. These organizations are not only focused on growth, but on doing what’s right for their employees, customers, and community. Recognizing them reinforces the values that help our entire region succeed.
If there’s one thing I would encourage, it’s this: don’t assume someone else will submit the nomination. Take a few minutes, share the story, and recognize the people and organizations that have made an impact on you. Your perspective could be the reason they are celebrated.
Together, we have the ability to lift each other up, share our stories, and continue building a community we’re all proud to be part of.
Nominations are open for 2026!
Submit nominations by August 10th at 11:59PM!
