From the President

As we head into the holiday season, I encourage everyone in North Iowa to be intentional about shopping local. Every purchase made at a neighborhood store, restaurant, or service provider directly supports the people who make our community vibrant – our business owners, their employees, and the families who rely on them. When we choose to keep our dollars here at home, we’re investing in the character and economic vitality of Mason City, ensuring our small businesses continue to thrive long after the decorations come down.

This year in particular, our local retailers have worked hard to create a festive and welcoming experience downtown and throughout the community. From beautifully decorated storefronts to extended shopping hours and special holiday promotions, they’re offering unique gifts and services you won’t find anywhere else. Many of these businesses also contribute generously to community events, youth programs, and nonprofit initiatives throughout the year. Supporting
them during the holiday rush is one of the most meaningful ways we can show appreciation for all they give back.

Shopping local isn’t just an act of goodwill – it’s an economic strategy. Small businesses reinvest far more of their revenue back into the local economy compared to national or online retailers. Those dollars support jobs, help fund public services, and strengthen the overall quality of life that makes North Iowa a great place to live and work. Together, we can make this season bright for local businesses and keep our community strong in the year ahead.
