Reflecting on the past few years participating in the annual Chamber Trivia Night, what really enticed me to put together a team wasn’t trivia, but the opportunity to pick a team name and dress up for the event. If you know Bergland + Cram, you know we love a good theme and some healthy competition.
Personally, the uncertainty of knowing any trivia questions or if the rest of the teams are trivia geniuses usually keeps me from participating in any trivia competition. I am not a walking encyclopedia, and I’d likely hinder a team rather than help it. But our Bergland + Cram team rallied together, and as a unified team our combined confidence and ability to always have a good time was enough reason to join in.
The trivia questions cover a plethora of topics, and last year’s event featured a music round where you guessed a song after hearing only a few seconds of it. Luckily, our team has a couple of music aficionados that helped us dominate that round. On the flip side, there was a sports round and I was absolutely no help at all, aside from being the official answer scribe for our team. That’s what’s great about this event, Chamber Trivia Night is less about being a genius and more about the experience: hanging out together, enjoying snacks and drinks, and the sudden rush of excitement when you actually know an answer! Whether we win or not, the event gives us a chance to connect with friends and community partners, engage in a little lighthearted trash-talking, and learn something new along the way.
If you’ve been on the fence about attending, just know this: the Greater Mason City Chamber team knows how to elevate a standard trivia night. Whether you were “volun-told” to be there or you’re looking to dominate your fellow community members, the event is a blast for everyone. Between the traveling trophy, bragging rights, and a variety of door prizes, there are plenty of ways to walk away a winner even if trivia isn’t your thing.
After all, what else are you going to do on a cold February night?
