Rooted in Agriculture, Growing Toward the Future

Written by: Grace Schmidt, Agribusiness Senior Scholarship Recipient

Receiving the Greater Mason City Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness Senior Scholarship was a true honor. It means a lot to be recognized for my involvement in agriculture, FFA, and my community. This award supports my future education and encourages me to continue working toward my goal of becoming an agricultural educator and FFA advisor. I am very grateful for the investment in students who are passionate about agriculture and rural communities.

Agriculture has always been a major part of my life, especially through my experience as a cattle producer. Working with cattle has taught me responsibility, patience, and the importance of hard work. I have learned that success in agriculture requires dedication and attention to detail. Raising cattle has also given me a strong appreciation for the livestock industry and the role it plays in feeding families and supporting communities.

Through FFA and 4-H, I have had many opportunities to build on this foundation. I have served in leadership roles, competed in contests, and volunteered in my community. These experiences have helped me grow as a leader and taught me the importance of communication, teamwork, and service. Agriculture, to me, is more than just an industry, it is a way of life that connects people and creates opportunity.

My future plans include attending North Iowa Area Community College for two years before transferring to Iowa State University to complete my degree in agricultural education. I hope to return to northern Iowa to teach agriculture and serve as an FFA advisor. My goal is to help students discover their own passion for agriculture while developing leadership skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.

Attending the Ag Breakfast was also an inspiring experience. It was encouraging to be surrounded by individuals who support agriculture and invest in the future of students like myself. It reinforced how strong and connected the agricultural community is, and how important it is to continue supporting the next generation of agricultural leaders. There was also amazing food, music, and speakers!
