Building Your Network, Finding Your Community

Written by: Olivia Goodrich, Bank Iowa

When I first heard about the LINC young professional group, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. Coming from a small town, your connections are naturally more limited, so I knew this would be a great opportunity to challenge myself to meet new people and become more involved in the North Iowa community. I wanted to do more than simply work and go home each day. I wanted to build meaningful connections with others, make friends with similar goals and interests, and learn from people with different experiences and perspectives. I also hoped those relationships would help me grow both personally and professionally while opening doors to new opportunities throughout the community.

Since joining, I have met so many fun individuals and became friends with some as well! Joining LINC gives you the chance to step out of your comfort zone to connect, learn, and grow. I have been able to attend fun events such as pumpkin decorating, sip and painting, game night and more! LINC has also given me the chance to volunteer at new places since I enjoy giving back to the community. It helps to widen your horizons because then you can use those resources for the future.

Becoming a member has made me realize that being involved isn’t only about strengthening your resume but also about building relationships, enhancing your self-esteem, and finding your position within the community. If you are interested in becoming a part of a young professional group, LINC is the way to go. You never know where showing up to your first introduction might lead.
