For a long time, the formula for a business event was pretty simple: find your seat, eat a meal, listen to a few speeches, and head home. We are trying to move beyond that.
One of the things we are intentionally doing more at the Greater Mason City Chamber of Commerce is creating events that are not simply something you attend, but something you experience. We want you to engage in the conversation, meet someone new, learn something useful, have a little fun, and leave feeling more connected to our business community.
Our Annual Meeting is a great example of that shift. You will be able to choose from breakout sessions focused on civic engagement, small business, and the leaders behind this year’s award nominations. You can enjoy live music, food, drinks, and a Mardi Gras mask-decorating station. We are even working on adding a tarot card reader because, if we are going to “Let the Good Times Roll,” we might as well have some fun with it.
But the fun is not separate from the purpose. We believe some of the best connections happen in the spaces between the formal program—when you are laughing with someone over a mask-decorating table, comparing notes after a breakout session, or meeting a person you might not otherwise have crossed paths with. Those moments matter. They are often where relationships begin, ideas are exchanged, and the Chamber’s work becomes more personal.
That is what we want our events to feel like. So yes, come to celebrate. Come to learn. Come for the food, the music, the awards, and maybe even a glimpse into your future. Most of all, come ready to be part of it.
