As a new North Iowan, I didn’t have any connections or know how to access resources to connect with others in the area. I spent the first year in North Iowa not knowing how to socialize or create new friendships. I found myself getting bored, not having a clue what there was to do! After participating in Leadership North Iowa, our class had similar concerns: how do young professionals connect in a new area? This became the start of a beautiful development on a new group for young professionals: North Iowa LINC. The idea was to create a group for those that are new or returning to the area and help them connect with others and the community.
North Iowa LINC is eight months in and has been a great success! As the Vice Chair for the LINC Lead Team, I’ve witnessed groups coming together and connecting with one another outside of regular meetings. Many LINC members have consistently attended our monthly scheduled meetings and expressed their gratitude for LINC opening new opportunities for them. As a result of my active participation in the group, I have enjoyed finding new connections, learning more about being a young professional, and finding ways to give back to the community as well! As LINC continues to grow, so do the individuals who have been with us since day one. Seeing the positive impact on others inspires me to continue fostering Leadership, Inclusion, Networking opportunities, and a strong sense of Community.
To any businesses or young professionals not yet part of North Iowa LINC, I encourage you to get involved! It’s a meaningful way for young professionals at any organization to build a sense of belonging while gaining valuable insight into the professional world. Join LINC to learn, connect, and have a lot of fun along the way!
